DTSG WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT MASS LITERACY

National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education has been commended for revitalizing Adult and Youth Literacy in all nooks and crannies of the country.
Mr. Patrick Ukah gave this commendation while hosting a delegation led by the Secretary-General National Commission UNESCO, Mrs. Magalene Maidoh who paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
Mr. Ukah reiterated the State Government’s commitment to the education of her citizens, adding that the Education Summit organised by the state was designed to articulate policies and educational programmes as encapsulated in the S. M. A. R. T. Agenda of the present administration led by
Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.
The Information Commissioner stated that the Ministry will work in collaboration with the National Commission and the State Agency for Adult and Non-Formal Education to publicize the programmes and activities of the to the grassroots.
He charged the delegation to also partner with the Directorate of Orientation for door to door campaign for Adult and Youth Literacy, saying that the state Print and Electronic media is targeted to those who have access to radio, television and newspapers.
Earlier, the Secretary-general, National Commission, UNESCO, Mrs. Magdalene Maidoh, explained that the delegation were in the office of the Honorable Commissioner for the purpose of collaborating with the Ministry in the area of publicity and sensitization of the general public on the need for adult and youth literacy.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Delta State Agency for Adult and Non-Formal Education, Dr. (Mrs.) Caroline Ajuyah, explained that the advocacy visit was occasioned by the need to bring mass literacy to the grassroots.
Chairman, Agency for Adult and Non-Formal Education Board, Engr. Tom Onah, thanked the Honourable Commissioner for the partnership and promised that the Board will reciprocate the gesture by fulfilling their part of the agreement.
Present at the courtesy visit were Prince ­­­Danse, South-South Representative, National Steering Committee for Revitalising Adult and Youth Literacy; Mrs. Imelda Inyang, Acting Zonal Coordinator, National Commission for Mass Literacy; Barr. Frank Osafiele, member of the Board; Biyibi Joy, Director for Adult and Non-Formal Education, Delta State.
